Bhubaneswar, April 12: A 24-year-old lady conductor of an all-women bus today registered a complaint of sexual harassment against labour welfare officer of the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation L.K. Behera.

The victim, a native of Bhuban in Dhenkanal district, alleged that Behera had been sexually harassing her for quite sometime. The harassment increased after he came to know that she had recorded Behera’s phone calls.

She said Behera had manhandled her and deleted the voice recording clips from her mobile phone after he came to know that she had recorded his mobile conversation with her.

“Though I was appointed as a contractual data entry operator in March 2011, the corporation assigned me the job of a bus conductor after it introduced an all women bus last year. Behera had been forcing me to stay in the office after office hours and used to make frequent calls with ill intentions,” she said.

The victim also alleged that since the inception of the all-women special bus service, the officer had been denying her leave.

“Three women conductors have left the job after the all-women bus service was launched. I had applied for leave on health ground on March 20, but he refused to grant it. When I took up the issue with higher officials, Behera told me that my contractual service had been terminated,” said the victim, a graduate.

The police have registered a case. “A case has been registered,” said inspector in charge of Mahila police station Sujata Panda.

Behera denied the allegations. “The allegations made by the lady are completely baseless,” he said.
