Bhubaneswar: The government has formed a committee, including eminent people from various walks of life, to celebrate the city's 70th foundation day here on April 13.

The Rajdhani Foundation Day Celebration Committee will manage the celebrations. With the city entering into the Global Smart City Index, the festivities are expected to be held on a large scale this year.

"The celebrations will be bigger and better than seen previously. This year marks a milestone for the city as it got global recognition as a smart city," said committee president Pradosh Patnaik.

The committee has been celebrating the day for the last 30 years. Starting from a small event in 1988, it has now become a three-day celebration with cultural programmes and felicitations.

All important buildings of the city will be illuminated on the day. A series of events will be held to mark the occasion, including a civilian parade, a photo exhibition, cultural programmes and various competitions.

On the occasion, 25 persons from various sections of society will be felicitated for their contribution to the development of the capital city.

A preparatory meeting for the celebrations was held recently where Khurda collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra, additional district magistrate Manoj Mohanty and senior officers of various government departments and agencies such as the Bhubaneswar Development Authority, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, and various other stakeholders took part.#
