Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Thursday arrested Nalini Kumari Prusty, chief accounts officer of Odisha Primary Education Programme Authority, and her husband Bijay Ketan Sahu, who is the tehsildar at Chhatrapur in Ganjam district, on the charge of amassing properties disproportionate to their known sources of income.
Both of them were sent to Jharpada jail following rejection of their bail pleas.
Vigilance sleuths have traced movable and immovable properties worth Rs 6.87 crore of the both the class-I officials, which is the highest in terms of detection of property by government officials by the vigilance department.
"So far, we have found disproportionate assets to the tune or Rs 5.05 crore which the couple failed to establish. The assets possessed by the couple was more than 200 per cent excess of their known sources of income," said a vigilance official, adding that though they were initially probing the involvement of Prusty, the role of her husband came under the scanner after unearthing of the huge amount of assets.
While Prusty has been an officer of Odisha Financial Services for 19 years, her husband, an Odisha Administrative Service officer, has been in service for 13 years.
Vigilance officials have traced two flats of the couple at Madhusudan Nagar in Bhubaneswar worth Rs 1.8 crore. The raiding team have also found interior decoration done at both the flats at a cost of around Rs 1.34 crore. The flats have central air conditioning system worth Rs 7.85 lakh, a home theatre with all fittings and furniture worth Rs 9 lakh, two LED TVs worth Rs 8.29 lakh and bed and sofa worth Rs 4.91 lakh. The bathroom is furnished with a sauna steam bath unit worth Rs 3 lakh and an electric bathtub worth Rs 1.5 lakh.
The vigilance sleuths have also traced fixed deposits in various banks worth Rs 1.04 crore and cash of Rs 5.75 lakh during the search operation besides finding diamond and 1,100 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 40 lakh.
The household articles of the couple cost around Rs 46 lakh.
