Jajpur: Four unidentified goons attacked a motorcyclist with a gun and a knife and looted cash, gold jewellery and the motorcycle from him near Sankhari Diha on the NH-5 in Dharmasala police station limits here on Sunday night.
The bike-borne robbers allegedly attacked the victim with a gun, injuring him seriously, before going on the looting spree.
The injured has been identified as Sudipta Kumar Sahoo, a resident of Ramchandrapur area in Bari.
He was rushed to the Community Health Centre at Dharmasala and was later shifted to the district headquarters hospital in Jajpur town after his condition deteriorated. However, he has been stated to be out of danger now.
According to the FIR filed with local police, Sudipta was returning to his native village from Bhubaneswar on his motorcycle on Sunday night. Around 11am, four unidentified goons in two black bikes started following him from behind from Neulpur area on the NH-5. The bike-borne goons finally intercepted and assaulted him near Sankhari Diha.
When Sudipta to resist, the stabbed him with a knife, leaving him seriously injured. Immediately, they decamped with Sudipta's gold chain, three gold finger rings, some cash and the motorcycle.
Local villagers spotted Sudipta lying on the road in a profusely bleeding condition and called an ambulance to shift him to hospital. The villagers also informed the local police about the incident.
Inspector in charge of Dharmasala police station Uma Kanta Nayak said: "A case has been registered against four unknown accused and a probe is on."
