Cuttack, June 6: Girls outdid boys in the degree examinations of Ravenshaw University here, the results of which were declared today.
Out of the 1,509 students, who appeared for examinations in 25 subjects under arts, science and commerce streams, 1,424 have passed. The pass percentage of the university is 94.36 this year as compared to 90.04 per cent last year.
“This time, girls outshone boys by holding the top 10 positions in various departments. The total pass percentage of Ravenshaw University stands at 94.36,” said the university’s controller of examinations Dharmabrata Mohapatra.
Mohapatra said the total pass percentage was 94.73 in arts, 93.35 in science and 95.04 in commerce.
Of the 1,509 students who appeared for the exams, 1,004 students have secured first division, 375 students have passed in the second division, 45 passed without honours while 85 students failed.
Tiger Parida of geology and Rupali Bhattacharya of information science and telecommunication bagged the best graduate honours in regular and self-financed courses, respectively.
“I am extremely happy with my rank. I had worked hard for the best graduate title,” said Parida, who hails from Dhenkanal. He is headed for Mumbai to pursue higher studies at IIT.
“Though I had expected to be the topper in the B.Sc (IST) department, I certainly had not expected to become the university topper. All this has been possible due to inspiration and encouragement from my teachers, parents and blessings of God,” said Bhattacharya.
A total of 201 students had appeared for the degree examination in regular science out of which 185 have passed. In arts, 450 students out of 475 passed the exam, while 388 students out of 401 have passed in commerce.
In the self-financing courses, 178 out of 189 have passed in B.Sc (ITM), 115 out of 121 in B.Sc (IST) and 111 out of 124 in BBA.
Girls who have fared well in science subjects are Shasmita (botany) with 85.4 per cent, Prajna Mishra (chemistry) with 83.1 per cent, Nirupama Panda (physics) with 86.1 per cent and Sushree Shibanee Das (zoology) with 87.4 per cent. Swetalin Das (economics) with 76.5, Sadhana Roul (English), Arpita Panda (geography), Smaranika Sarangi (Hindi), Tanjua Rani Patra (history), Runu Bala Swain (Oriya), Swarnalata Behera (philosophy), Ankita Das (political science), Aakanshya Mishra (psychology), Menaka Panda (Sanskrit), Swyamanshree Mishra (sociology), Snigdha Sahoo (statistics) have bagged the top honours in Arts.
Nikita Jalan (accounting) and Ananya Sunayana (management) have topped the exam in commerce.
Akash Mishra (computer science), Prashant Sahoo (mathematics), Sumeet Kar (software design), Biraja Prassana Mohanty (networking engineering), Sapan Kumar Mahato (finance) and Anand Prakash Kullu (marketing) have secured the top positions among boys.
