Cuttack, Sept. 24: The body of a 25-year-old girl, who went missing from her home at Tarito village within the limits of Kishore Nagar police station yesterday, was found from the Mahanadi river this morning.

The family of the deceased alleged that goons had dumped her body in the Mahanadi after raping and murdering her. The matter came to light after the girl’s family members recovered her bicycle, shoes, clothes and few other articles from the Mahanadi embankment this morning. Following their complaint, the body was fished out from the river by fire brigade personnel. “My daughter has been raped and killed. We have recovered her clothes and belongings from the river embankment, while her body was found about a kilometre away from the place,” said the girl’s father, a schoolteacher.

He said there were injury marks on the face, lips and private parts of her daughter’s body. The girl had gone to the market yesterday afternoon and did not return home. After failing to locate her, her family members lodged a complaint with Kishore Nagar police.

The deceased’s family members suspect involvement of persons, whom she knew, in the incident.

“We want strict action against those involved in the incident,” said Subrat Satpathy, a villager.

“We have sent the body for post-mortem,” said officer in charge of Kishore Nagar police station Sushant Satpathy.
