Artistes perform at the state tribal fair in Bhubaneswar on Friday.

Tribal communities from across the state are showcasing their vibrant music and dance at the Adivasi Mela under way at Adivasi Exhibition Ground here in Bhubaneswar.

Four or five tribal dances are showcased everyday and each is unique because of its costumes, accessories, musical instruments, dance steps and songs. Members of 30 Integrated Tribal Development Agencies (ITDA) from across the state have also taken part in the fair.

Bonda, Bhumija, Santal Kalasi dance, Kathi Nat, Ghumura and Munda dance have already been showcased.

"The hair accessories, jewellery and the attires add to the beauty of the performances," said Nayana Das, a visitor.

Many other tribal dance forms will also be presented over the few days at the festival that will conclude on February 9. The fair has been organised by the state SC and ST development department.

"We are happy to see tribal artistes on stage. However, we want to see more veteran dancers perform rather than young school children who are yet to understand the nuances of the rich dance forms and the tribal culture," said Dhanamani Nayak from Rayagada.
