Cuttack, Jan. 28: Governor Muralidhar Chandrakant Bhandare today underscored the need for a review of the prevalent selection process for appointment of judges.

“There is need for a change in the system to ensure that the principles and values that come with the high offices of judiciary are upheld,” he said while inaugurating the East Zone Judicial Conference on “Enhancing quality adjudication” at the high court here.

“Character, calibre, compassion, courtesy and common sense are the five qualities needed in judicial officers to win the trust and confidence of the mass,” he said.

He said a unified and concerted effort from both the judges and the lawyers was the needed to control the situation arising out of the huge pendency of cases in the courts.

Over a hundred judicial officers are participating in the three-day conference. High court Chief Justice and Orissa Judicial Academy Patron-in-Chief V.
