Flair for studies, finesse in dance

Schools encourage students for cultural activities

Felicitation 

Wood Apple, a school for the disabled children, organised a cultural programme in Bhubaneswar on March 25 to felicitate the winners of the Harmony Bell competition, which was organised by the school recently. 

The competition was based on various categories, such as arts, dance, instruments and vocal talent. A number of personalities from diverse backgrounds, including film director Srikant Gautam and social activist Reena Routray, were present on the occasion to encourage the students. A cultural programme was organised after the felicitation ceremony.

Joy of cooking 

SAI International School, Bhubaneswar, organised a cooking show on March 25 to mark the Mother’s Day. Students and their mothers took part in the competition and came up with innovative recipes. The event was judged by a number of chefs from popular restaurants of the city who gave tips to improve cooking techniques. The event was an opportunity for the students and their mothers to spend time with each other.

Enrolment drive 

The department of school and mass education will organise Pravesh Utsav from April 3 to 6 in all elementary schools in the state to encourage enrolment in government schools. The special drive will be held for students who are between six to 14 years. Anganwadi workers, health workers, panchayat members and school management committees will be involved to create awareness during the drive. This apart, textbooks will be distributed and a number of interactive activities will be conducted.

Scientific models

A science exhibition was held at Sri Aurobindo Purnanga Shiksha Kendra in Bhubaneswar to celebrate the 47th annual function of the institution. Models on a range of topics, such as global warming, water conservation, bad effects of junk food and Swacch Bharat, were showcased. About 90 students showcased 60 models at the exhibition. 

Skill development

A state-level youth Red Cross camp for girl volunteers was organised in Bhubaneswar. The main objective of the three-day camp was to boost the confidence of the students and help them develop their skills. They were trained on various topics, such as history of Red Cross movement, fundamental principles, first aid, HIV/AIDS, health and hygiene, voluntary blood donation, road safety, leadership and yoga. Various competitions were organised during the camp to harness the literary potentials of students.

State honours  

Governor S.C. Jamir gave Rajya Puraskar certificates to cubs, scouts, rovers, bulbuls, guides and rangers at the Rajya Puraskar Utsav of Odisha unit of the Bharat Scouts and Guides at Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on March 29. Students also presented a cultural show at the event.

Community service 

Students of DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, took part in a three-day community service camp at Talcher recently. Students created awareness about healthcare, cleanliness, safe motherhood and issues surrounding digital payments among the local residents. Students went in procession with placards to create consciousness among the villagers about latest government schemes and benefits.
