Bhubaneswar, Nov. 29: The ninth edition of one of Odisha’s well-known cultural festivals, Dhauli-Kalinga Mahotsav, will begin on December 10. Eminent artistes will perform during the five-day fest at the foothills of Dhauli.

The festival is organised by the department of tourism in association with Odisha Dance Academy Bhubaneswar.

While Dhauli Mahotsav will witness concerts of classical and folk dance and music by synthesising religion and faith, Kalinga Mahotsav will send the message of peace through martial dances.

An Odissi dance recital by the academy will kickstart the celebrations. Kalaripayattu, a martial dance from Kerala, will be the next act of the day.

The second day will feature Gotipua and Shantali Danta by troupes from the state.

Vikram Iyengar and Group from Calcutta will present a Kathak recital.

Gatka, a martial art associated with Sikhs, will be the highlight of the third day. The following day will treat art lovers to classical and contemporary dance performances by Chennai-based Bharatnatyam Guru Anita Guha and group and Bengaluru-based Attakkallari Centre for Movement Arts, respectively.

The concluding day will be dedicated to the dance forms of the state. Groups from Pipili, Bhadrak and Kendrapara will present recitals of Sankirtan, Laudi Nrutya and Gitinatya, respectively.

Two city-based cultural organisations will also be part of the last day celebrations.
