Bhubaneswar: The tourism department will host a number of festivals from November 25 to December 16 at various locations across the city to create a "vibrant environment befitting the scale of the Men's Hockey World Cup".

A one-of-its-kind urban festival will be organised for branding of hockey world cup, which is the biggest sporting event the city is going to host ever, among visitors and local residents.

A street food festival will be organised with an aim to propagate international recipes by reinventing food of the 16 countries taking part in the sporting event, including India. Indian cuisines of various regions and states will also be promoted at the food festival, while there will be special zones for authentic Odia delicacies. The existing food streets of the city will host a Street Food Carnival in order to give the street food a major boost with local entrepreneurs and homemakers participating in large numbers.

Odisha Tourism Development Corporation and Institute of Hotel Management have been given the responsibility to select hoteliers and leading restaurant operators for operation of the food kiosks. The site for the event has been booked at IDCO Exhibition Ground, Bhubaneswar.

"A cultural festival will also be hosted where performances - such as folk play, music and dance, workshops, exhibitions - will be showcased," said a senior Odisha Tourism official.

A decision has been taken to revamp several bus stops, undertake development of roads and restoration of footpaths. Moreover, the entire city will be painted with graffiti with hockey as the key theme.

A concept of city bus tour will also be introduced wherein special routes will be devised to take out the tourists to various destinations across the city.
