Balasore, Dec. 6: Mayurbhanj police yesterday arrested two persons on the charge of impersonation.
The two accused were identified as Rajat Das and Dhubendranath Singh of Kaliasolo village within the limites of Suliapada police station.
Both the accused, in their mid-twenties, had robbed a motorcyclist recently impersonating themselves as police officials.
The police booked them for robbery. They were sent to jail following rejection of their bail petitions.
The impostor duo, identifying themselves as officials of Suliapada police station, had intercepted Daktar Hansda, a student of diploma engineering on an isolated road near a forest of Kaliasolo while he was coming towards Baripada on a motorcycle.
The accused were in civil dress and claimed that they were on duty to check the vehicles.
On the pretext of verifying Hansda’s driving licence and other documents related to his motorcycle, the accused took away his money purse.
After taking away available cash from his purse, they further asked Hansda to withdraw Rs 5,000 through his debit card from ATM. Hansda, however, could not withdraw the amount from the ATM as the server was out of order.
