CM joins celebrations at Dav Public School, Pokhariput

Model school

MLA Akash Das Nayak on Thursday inaugurated the Adarsha Vidyalaya at Begana in Jajpur district in the presence of district collector Ranjan Kumar Das. The state created the model school concept to impart education from classes I to XII on the lines of Kendriya Vidyalayas. The two-storey building is spread across 25,000sqft. Tata Steel has constructed the building for Rs 4.57 crore. The company has also provided the required classroom infrastructure.

Silver jubilee

DAV Public School, Pokhariput, celebrated its silver jubilee on April 2. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik attended the event. Naveen released a souvenir reflecting the school’s achievements. Students, teachers and winners of various inter-school competitions were felicitated.

Cricket camp

Town Club, a Bhubaneswar-based cricket club, is hosting a 15-day camp for schoolchildren. Khurda sports officer and coach Lalitendu Mohanty is guiding them. Ranji players will also join the camp to train the youngsters. Several youngsters from rural areas have also joined the camp. 

Tourney 

DAV Public School, CDA (Cuttack), won the PVR Murthy Memorial Inter-School Cricket Tournament, beating Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences by 12 runs in Cuttack last week. Binayak Sahoo of Jobra High School won man of the tournament award. Visually-impaired cricketers Md Jafar Iqubal and Sukharam Majhi were felicitated on the occasion.

Power message

P. V. Ramesh, the chairman-cum-managing director of the Rural Electrification Corporation Limited, distributed solar lamps among 25,000 students of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) at a charity event held in Bhubaneswar. The move was aimed at spreading the message of energy efficiency among the youths. The lamps have been made by the Solar Energy Corporation of India.

Helping hand

The Sambalpur district administration, in association with Rotary Club, has adopted 75 meritorious and economically weak students from various schools across the district. The district administration has also started Sahayoga scheme to provide support to such students studying in government schools. Several civil servants and businessmen have become a part of the initiative. The adopters of each student are depositing an amount of Rs 500 in the bank account of the student every month to ensure that they can continue with their studies and be successful in whatever they do in life.
