Bhubaneswar, Sept. 17: The All India Council for Technical Education will shortly partner with business-oriented social networking service LinkedIn to facilitate campus placements for students graduating from various technical institutes across the country.

"Students can have their profiles on LinkedIn so that industries interested in those profile can contact them. It will be a single platform for industries, students and institutes, who can connect with each other and hiring will depend on the candidates' expertise," said All India Council for Technical Education chairman Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe.

Sahasrabudhe also said he had a meeting with the LinkedIn authorities last week and an MoU would be signed shortly.

"This will help our students fetch job not only in the county but also abroad. Especially students in the rural areas and small towns will benefit from the initiative as companies usually do not visit these institutes for campus recruitment," he said speaking at the regional convention on Polytechnic Education in Eastern States jointly organised by the council and the state directorate of technical education and training.

The initiative would also help students keep track of suitable jobs. They can receive updates on their application on the platform. Besides, such pact will help the institutions as well as students to be able to connect with the alumni groups and get tips from them to build professional networks. On the other hand, the recruiters, too, can filter the candidate pool ahead of campus visits and focus on interviewing the selected candidates.

Incidentally, LinkedIn has recently developed a product called LinkedIn placements.

"For any student landing on his or her first job is the biggest concern. The All India Council for Technical Education's move will be helpful not only for candidates like me, but also for our college authorities that have limited scope to reach out to all potential recruiters for their lack of expertise," said Mridul Patnaik, a student.
