Bhubaneswar, Nov. 24: A sequel to the Dushmant Panda-Priti Mohanty drama saw the latter sitting on a dharna outside a police station in the capital today.
Priti, who had levelled allegations against the Odia film star for ditching her after they had a live-in relationship, went to the Mahila police station and sat on the dharna.
The 24-year-old student of journalism demanded action against Dushmant who is to tie the knot with actress Kajal Mishra this Sunday.
Priti had also come “armed with evidence” to drive home her point. Protesting against what she termed as cheating by the actor, the young girl flashed her photographs with Dushmant during happier times.
She demanded that the actor be arrested for allegedly “cheating” her after two years of a live-in relationship following their wedding at a Shani temple in Vani Vihar.
After around half an hour of her dharna, the police convinced Priti to end her protest. The police asked her to give her demands in writing. She then submitted a written complaint with the police and called off her protest.
Earlier on Wednesday, she had lodged a complaint with the State Commission for Women (SCW).
Accusing the actor of cheating, Priti had sought the commission’s intervention in the matter. She also pleaded with the SCW to take action against Dushmant.
However, the 27-year-old Dushmant today refuted the charges. He also showed photographs of his registered marriage with 30-year-old Kajal.
“We had married last month at the notary office. Our ritualistic marriage, in true Odia tradition, will be held on November 27,” said Dushmant.
He also added that Priti’s love for him was a one-sided affair. Talking about his alleged marriage with Priti, he said that Hindu marriages “are never conducted at Shani temples and hence her allegation is baseless”.
“I had no romantic feelings for her. A few months ago she had asked me to marry her in front of her family and I had refused to do so,” said Dushmant.
He added that when Priti came to know that he was going to marry his girlfriend Kajal, she had been trying to create problems for him and his family.
The actor also threatened to take legal action against Priti if she went on tarnishing his image.
On the other hand, Priti said that though the actor had approached her to marry him, she initially turned him down as she was a student.
Later, the actor married her at the Shani temple, following which they had been living-in at the residence of the girl at Dumduma Housing Board Colony near Khandagiri.
Priti, the daughter of a journalist based in Angul, alleged that for the past few months Dushmant had been avoiding her and was staying with his family members in Laxmisagar area.
On October 25, she had approached the actor’s parents there. “But they threatened me and threw me out of their house. The following day, I lodged a complaint with the Mahila police,” she said.
Interestingly, in her complaint filed at the Mahila police station, Priti has stated that Dushmant and Kajal had eloped last week since the actress’s family had arranged her marriage with someone else.
“They fled to Calcutta and married before a notary on November 15 just after Dushmant had promised to marry me,” Priti said in her complaint to the police.
After receiving Priti’s complaint, a senior police officer at the Mahila police station said they were inquiring into the matter.
“We are trying to establish whether they had actually married or not. Both of them are majors. So we have to take steps accordingly,” said the officer.
As the controversy continues, Kajal has asserted that her marriage with Dushmant will happen as per schedule.
