Berhampur: Next time if you need the service of a plumber, electrician, data entry operator, nurse or a driver, all you have do is to dial 1800 345 2297.

The Berhampur Municipal Corporation's toll-free number is set up at the Livelihood Centre under the Livelihood Mission Work to address problems of local residents staying within the municipal limits and to help the people who are in search of work.

"We opened the Livelihood Centre in the Old Bus Stand on November 1 last year and the people who want to serve the public need to register themselves here," said commissioner of the municipal corporation Nikhil Pavan Kalyan. The civic body will act as mediator, service provider and tag both the parties.

Many people from Berhampur migrate for employment, as they fail to get contacts for work and many times local residents need various services but fail to get in touch with the people who can help them. The civic body will provide a common platform and easy access for both.

The corporation will provide professionals for 16 services, including plumber, electrician, data entry operator, nurse, driver, mason, cook, beautician, tailor, washerman and others.

We are also trying to provide this service online in the near future, the commissioner said. "We will initiate many training programmes to train these professionals," he said.
