Cuttack, Nov. 4: Two medical students from Berhampur and Balasore have tested positive for dengue. They were admitted to the special dengue ward at SCB Medical College and Hospital here.

One of the victims is a fourth-year MBBS student of MKCG Medical College, who hailed from Kendrapara district. He was admitted yesterday following high fever.

The other victim, Diptinandan Pradhan, is a student of Hi-tech Medical College. He had gone to his village in Balasore during the Dussehra vacation.

The condition of both the students is stable, said an SCB official.

This year, 534 people have been admitted to the dengue ward at SCB Medical College and Hospital so far. Only one person has died of the disease.

“At present, 41 persons are undergoing treatment at the dengue ward in our hospital. We have increased the ward’s bed capacity from 26 to 56 to handle the rush,” said SCB emergency officer B.N. Moharana.

So far, most of the dengue cases have been reported from Balasore and Bhadrak.

In another development, the Cuttack district administration has decided to launch an awareness drive to tackle the dengue problem after two adult aedes mosquitoes were found at Khapuria here last month.
