Death toll rises to 61
Malkangiri: With the death of a child at the district headquarters hospital here on Thursday, the toll in Japanese Encephalitis reached 61 in 42 days in the district. The deceased was identified as Asit Padiami, 2, of Namkonda village in Kalimela block of the district. The child succumbed to the vector-borne disease while undergoing treatment.
Bank robbery
Cuttack: Four armed criminals on Thursday barged into a branch of the Indian Overseas Bank at Tangi and decamped with Rs 6.5 lakh cash. Sources said the criminals had brandished guns at the people present at the bank, overpowered them and fled with the cash.

Balasore: An additional sessions judge on Thursday convicted a murder accused and awarded him life term besides Rs 10,000 penalty. The incident took place on February 19 last year and the deceased was Nirupama Ghosh, 25. She was the second wife of the convict Jeet Amresh Satpathy, a resident of Bagbrundaban in Balasore town.
