Deadline stretched 

Bhubaneswar: The deadline for door-to-door verification of voters’ list at booth level has been extended till June 30. Chief electoral officer Debendra Nath Gupta had written a letter to the chief election commission of India regarding the problems being faced at the ground level in this regard, following request from various district 
collectors.

Agitation

Cuttack: Tension prevailed outside the main gates of Aarti Steels Limited at Ghantikhal following a demonstration by angry villagers and family members of a worker, who was killed in an accident inside the factory on Friday. The family members demanded immediate compensation.

Selected 

Bhubaneswar: Sprinters Srabani Nanda and Amiya Kumar Mallick have been selected in the national delegation for the Asian Grand Prix athletic meet that begins from June 22 at Bangkok in Thailand.

Communal tension

Rourkela: Tension gripped Rajgangpur when two youths assaulted a person of a particular community near Station Chhak and Bagichapara. Soon a mob gathered and marched 
towards Rajgangpur police station. 

The mob also manhandled some people of the community, to which the youths belong. Five platoons of police had been deployed to tackle situation while nine persons from both sides were arrested.

Prisoner flees

Cuttack: Rahul alias Pritam Bose, 27, an undertrial prisoner, who was lodged in Choudwar Jail, 11km from here, on Saturday escaped from the SCB Medical College and Hospital. He had been taken there for medical check-up. 
Rahul was arrested two months ago for alleged involvement in a robbery case.

10 injured

Puri: Ten persons got injured in a clash between two groups at Krushnaprasad block over the rights to prawn farms on the shores of Chilka Lake. Two of the injured persons were shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur while others were admitted to the government hospital here.

Arrest

Balasore: A police team, led by Nilgiri sub-divisional police officer Swapneswar Mohapatra, on Saturday arrested Namita Sahu, the superintendent of Bapuji Seva Sadan, in connection with the rape of a tribal girl, and produced her before a local court. The court remanded her to jail after rejecting her bail plea.
