| Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans plant a sapling on the campus of their group centre in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. Apart from their duty to maintain law and order, the jawans have taken up this initiative to keep the city green. They have planted about 5,000 saplings at various educational institutions in the city apart from their own base camp. More such projects are in the pipeline. Besides planting saplings, the CRPF team has also created a huge nursery of neem trees on its campus in order to provide more saplings for their own plantation and donate to other groups who are serious about plantation in their respective areas. “We have plans to raise more than 50,000 neem saplings at our nursery. Neem is an important plant for avenue plantation as scientists have been talking about its positive influences on the local environment. Many agencies, including the forests and environment department of the state government, are planning to lay emphasis on planting neem saplings along the city roads. Our nursery is meant to produce quality saplings. The seeds for these saplings were collected from the huge neem trees at our base camp,” said Subrat Kumar Mishra, DIG, CRPF group centre, Bhubaneswar. |
