Bhubaneswar, July 4: Khadi products are set to be promoted in a grand way with a 15-storey complex coming up here at an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore.

The proposed complex will be a joint venture by the Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco) and the Odisha Khadi and Village Industries Board.

“Idco will invest for the building, while the Khadi Board will provide 3.8 acres of land on its existing premises located at a prime place in Kharavela Nagar. The ratio of revenue sharing between us will be decided later,” said Khadi Board president Nagendra Kumar Pradhan.

Apart from housing a modern khadi showroom, the building will also provide commercial space to others.

At a meeting on Tuesday, chief secretary Bijay Patnaik advised the Idco authorities to prepare the architectural design of the building and go ahead with the tendering process. A target has been set to complete the tendering process by December.

Construction of the complex would be completed within 36 months from the date of start, said Idco chairman-cum-managing director, P.K. Jena.

A letter of expression of interest was invited from the architect firms to prepare the design of the building. Nine architect firms had submitted draft designs for the purpose, said Jena.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik will select the final design of the multi-storeyed building. While the first two floors of the building will be exclusively dedicated for display of khadi and indigenous products, the rest 13 floors will be rented out to various business establishments.
