Kendrapara: Living in isolation without a partner for long, Gori, the country's only captive white crocodile, has rejected companionship yet again.

Last week, a male estuarine crocodile had sneaked its way into the pen where the 43-year-old Gori is ensconced all alone. But, Gori turned down the mating offer and attacked the male intruder instead, said an official source.

"We had made at least three attempts in the past by letting loose male species. But, all the attempts have failed. Furious at the interference, Gori had attacked the male partners in the past," said the forest official.

"As the crocodile from the wild entered the pen, Gori stayed motionless for some time. Gradually, it grew restless and restive. Later, it tried to attack the male crocodile. The male intruder later made a hasty retreat," he said.

The pen, where Gori is living in isolation, is connected to natural water inlets and creeks of the Bhitarkanika river sytem.

Gori used to hog the spotlight over the years for its typical behavioural instinct. Living in captivity since its birth in the sanctuary, the animal continues to shun mating habits.

In the past, the animal had violently attacked the male partners that had been released into the pen for mating.

Gori had lost her left eye in a clash with the male partner about a decade ago.

Incidentally, the white croc was the mascot for the National Youth Festival that had been held in Bhubaneswar from January 8 to 12, 2010.
