Creative feat of young minds

Bhubaneswar, Aug. 26: Around 25 students of DPS Kalinga School organised a two-day art exhibition at Jayadev Bhavan. The exhibition titled “Creative Expressions” that displayed over 200 paintings concluded on Sunday.

The students had picked up topics such as culture, heritage, tourism et al. Prachurya Mohanty’s paintings on Lord Jagannath portrayed the Lord and the globe connected by a fleet of stairs. The second painting of the Class IX student had all the nine avatars of the Lord drawn on a tree with the cosmos as the background.

Another participant, Pratyusha Kar, used myriad hues in his Jagannath paintings. A series of paintings focused primarily on the big round eyes of the deity.

Another series of paintings was on heritage sites and tourism spots of Odisha. A few young artists exuded exemplary command on detailing.

Purnasha Mishra’s texture in her series on Gautam Buddha and Mohul Choudhary’s intricate artwork in her series of pattachitra caught everybody’s attention.

“I have been taking art lessons for five years now. Very recently I learnt to do pattachitras. I was attracted by the finesse of the artwork. I paint in my leisure time,” said Mohul.

Sai Puru Chand’s artworks were strikingly different from the rest as he represented the caricatures of sport cars. The exhibition had students participating from Class I to XII with Nysa Hemraj being the youngest of all.

While V. Vineeta drew sketches of legendary figures of the state, Aditya Panda focused on landscapes. Debarghya Ghosal paintings captured flora and fauna in their natural habitats.

Sudarshan Patnaik, eminent sand sculptor, inaugurated the exhibition, which was organised by Rajiv Dey, the art teacher of the school.

“It is important to provide the budding artists a platform to showcase their talent. Rajiv has guided the kids well,” said Patnaik. Teachers and parents too appreciated the endeavours of Dey.
