Bhubaneswar, March 16: Sunday's Patha Utsav will turn spotlights on the "Fight against corruption" to mark the 60th anniversary of the formation of the state vigilance.

The state vigilance directorate, in association with Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, will set up kiosks to encourage people to lodge complaints and share information on corruption. The vigilance directorate will distribute leaflets with contact number, email IDs and locations of vigilance divisions during the celebration of Patha Utsav.

A vigilance official said Odia actors Sabyasachi and Archita will take part in the event along with Bollywood singer Krishna Beura and Odia singer Tapu Mishra.

"The state police brass and pipe band will perform at the event. Paintings made by students during the last vigilance awareness week will be displayed. Five professional artists will also make paintings on the anti-corruption theme," said the vigilance official.

Vigilance director R.P. Sharma said the event would be helpful in educating the public about the job of the vigilance department.

"Through the event, we will encourage people to access various social media platforms to lodge complaints against corruption. We need public co-operation to fight against the menace," said Sharma.

The involvement of class I and class II officials of the state government in corruption cases is on the rise. While 48 class I officials were booked in such cases in 2013, the number climbed to 162 in 2016. Similarly, while the number of class II officials booked stood at 36 in 2013, it was 104 in 2016. The vigilance directorate in 2016 registered as many as 575 cases, including 233 of trapping and 119 of disproportionate assets. This was the highest number ever in terms of the number of cases.

Since its beginning, the weekly event has been focusing on themes such as renewable energy, women empowerment, rights of differently-abled people and cleanliness.
