Rourkela, Sept. 3: A retired school teacher inaugurated the community policing project at Plant Site police station here today.
The community policing project, known as Ama Police, is aimed at building a better police-people relationship. This is the second police station to be covered under the scheme. Inspector general of police of western range R.K. Sharma said that it was an attempt by them to come closer to people. “Through this service, we will interact with people regularly and attend to their problems. This, in turn, will build confidence between the police and public, which will ultimately help in better policing,” said Sharma.Ama police was earlier launched at Sector-19 police station in April this year.
According to the Ama Police scheme, the area under each community police station is divided into 17 beats and as many cops are put in charge of these beats. Each beat has around 800 houses. The policemen will visit their beats regularly and interact with the residents of these areas.
“We have asked our staff to be patient and polite while talking to the residents and listening to their problems. The policemen will remain in constant touch with the residents,” said police chief A.N Sinha.
