Jajpur, Aug. 23: Jakhapura police today arrested two youths for allegedly impersonating the additional district magistrate (ADM) of Cuttack and his personal assistant and duping even the cops.
The police also seized a car with a red beacon used by the alleged impostors. The duo have been identified as Debasish Das of Chatara village in Jagatsinghpur and Kailash Rout of Khadiabandh in Dhenkanal district. While Debasish allegedly posed as the ADM, Kailash presented himself as his personal assistant, the cops said. The two were produced before court today and later remanded in judicial custody after their bail pleas were rejected.
Posing as the ADM of Cuttack, Debasish Das called up Jakhapur police station to seek their help as he was visiting a private steel plant in Kalinga Nagar on Monday. An ASI of the police station even escorted Debasish's car to the steel plant. As Debasish had informed the plant officials earlier, they received him and took him to the plant office.
However, his activities raised suspicion among the plant officials. Two employees of the plant started questioning the driver of his car. The driver spilled the beans and told the plant employees that the car belonged to a travel agency in Cuttack.
Soon, the matter was reported to the local police. The cops reached the spot and started questioning Debasish and Kailash. The cops took them into custody and seized the car.
"We interrogated them and they confessed to their crime. We have recovered some incriminating materials from their possession," said Puspalata Barik, inspector in charge of Jakhapura police station. The seized car had the nameplate of the ADM, Barik added.
The police said Debasish is BTech and Kailash is a class-IV employee. Both of them are Bhubaneswar residents and allegedly blackmailed people, particularly private companies, the cops added.
