Cuttack: Police have arrested a man wanted for bombing a police control room (PCR) van.

With this, the police have arrested 14 criminals in 12 encounters in less than 10 months.

The cops nabbed Uttam Singh alias Kabo around 9pm on Sunday. Kabo had fired at the police team chasing him and the cops had returned fire. One 9mm pistol, two live bullets, mobile phone and three empty cartridges have been seized from the spot.

The police said Kabo, 28, of Kurunti in Cuttack Sadar had gained notoriety for robbery, bombing, extortion and excise cases.

Deputy commissioner of police, Cuttack, Akhileswar Singh said Kabo was wanted for bombing a police control room van on Saturday night.

Police said acting on a tip off, the special squad led by Sadar police station ASI Ashok Kumar Patra proceeded to the area behind R.K. Villa at Kothapatana.

On reaching the spot around 9pm the police team found the accused there.

When the police raiding party approached him, he immediately tried to run away. On being chased, Kabo took out a pistol and fired at the police party. ASI Patra had a close shave with the bullet narrowly missing his left ear.

"When Kabo was about to fire the next round, the police personnel fired to immobilise him. They hit him on the left thigh," the DCP said.
