Cops bust fake note racket

Sambalpur, Aug. 14: Police today busted a fake currency racket and arrested four persons, including a woman, here.

The police also seized fake currency notes worth Rs 42,500 from the gang members and impounded a scanner-cum-printer from them.

The accused have been identified as Santosh Rana, 23, Suru alias Radhakanta Rai, 24, Chanchala Saha, 42, and her son, Ganesh Saha, 25.

Acting on a tip off, the police nabbed a key member of the racket, Santosh, from Ainthapali yesterday. “Following interrogation, Santosh revealed that Radhakanta Rai was the mastermind,” said sub-divisional police officer of Sambalpur P.K. Mohapatra.

Subsequently, the police arrested Rai and seized fake notes worth Rs 28,000 from him. “They were printing the currency at Jhariabahal. They had been involved in this for the past three months. The matter is under investigation. The accused persons will be produced before court today,” said Mohapatra.
