Koraput: The Congress took out a rally at Jeypore on Monday alleging that the state government distributed faulty land record of rights to more than 10,000 landless tribals in Jeypore and Borigumma blocks between 2005 and 2014 and demanding immediate rectification of the documents and strict action against the offenders.

Jeypore MLA and Congress chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati alleged that the state government had distributed fake land patta to landless farmers on several occasions. "The land pattas neither contain the official seal of the concerned tehsil office nor the signature of the tehsildar. This is why the beneficiaries are no getting bank loan against the property. The state government has cheated the tribal landless farmers," alleged Bahinipati.

Bahinipati further alleged that the state government had distributed the land pattas to lure the innocent tribals in connivance with the local BJD leaders only to get votes.

"We have been demanding rectification of the faulty documents for the past two months. I had also submitted a memorandum to the district collector and the chief secretary for necessary action in this regard, but to no avail," Bahinipati said.

"If our demand is not fulfilled within next two months, we will intensify our agitation and will stage protest in front of the Assembly," he said.

More than 2,000 Congress workers also took out a rally from Raja Nagar Chhak to the residence of Jeypore sub-collector and submitted a memorandum to the district administration.

Sub-collector Loknath Dalbehera said: "The allegations are being verified and necessary action will be taken if required."
