Bhubaneswar, Feb. 12: The website of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) today got its grievance disposal system “Chattrabhijog”.

The online facility, announced to be launched more than six months ago, will help students file their complaints online. It aims to spare the students from the trouble of running from pillar to post for redress of their complaints.

According to the new system, students can create their online user ID and password and log into file their grievance. The status of the grievance will also be notified on the website and the problem will be addressed within 14 days.

Though the technical education department had announced about the facility in June last, it existed as a one-room cell at the BPUT camp office at Gandamunda here.

“The Gandamunda cell was of little help as the officials were not able to provide us the status of our complaints,” said Biplab Prakash Mohanty of the BPUT Students’ Protection Council.

The council had submitted a petition to the technical education department to set up the online grievance cell as soon as possible. “We had alleged that the receipt facility at the grievance cell was not functional. According to the announcement, hard copies of the grievances would be scanned and sent to the appropriate authority by email for their early disposal. Also, there would be a time limit for disposal of the grievances and their relevant authority should be clearly reflected on the website. Earlier, these facilities were not available,” said Mohanty.

This apart, the students had demanded installation of a toll-free number for the students to lodge their grievances. Following the complaint, secretary of the department C.S. Kumar had directed the NIC and the BPUT to expedite the online grievance cell facility.
