Bhubaneswar, May 30: Commerce honours students stole the show as the results of degree colleges affiliated to Utkal University were published today. With a pass rate of 90 per cent, these students have outshone their counterparts in other streams.
However, this year’s results for commerce honours have fallen by three per cent from last year. Similarly, the arts honours students have disappointed with a pass percentage of 86, dipping from 90.3 per cent in 2011.
Students with science honours, with an aggregate of 86 per cent, have bettered their seniors’ record by nearly nine per cent.
Last year, the pass score for science honours students was 77.4 per cent. As many as 15,587 students with honours subjects across the three streams had appeared for the final year degree exams, of which 13,475 have passed.
“In the honours category, the aggregate is 86 per cent while for the pass subjects, the aggregate stands at 73 per cent,” said exam controller of Utkal University S.K. Das.
As far as pass subjects are concerned, the success rate has gone down in all streams. In 2011, the aggregate for arts, science and commerce streams was 80.3 per cent, 69 per cent and 75.3 per cent, respectively.
This year, it is 74 per cent for arts, 68 per cent in science and 72 per cent in commerce. Of the 17,56 candidates who appeared for the pass subjects, 12,90 were successful.
“The candidates can check the results online by logging on to www.ddceutkal.org and entering their number,” Das said.
The admission process of the Utkal University is likely to commence from the first week of June. This time, the admissions will be conducted online. Last year, the varsity had received more than 8,000 forms.
“We have fixed a uniform fee for application forms at Rs 400. We hope to receive about 15,000 forms as many students can apply online,” said chairman of PG Council P.K. Sarkar.
