Bhubaneswar: The civic body will spend Rs 2.90 lakh to install colour LEDs in its parks to give visitors to these facilities a unique feel.
The development authority has begun the process to install the new lights at Indira Gandhi Park at Unit-II with the Buddha Jayanti Park next on the list.
"We have already replaced CFLs with the energy efficient LEDs in all our parks. We have now decided to install colour lights to give a different look to city parks," said a development authority official.
Sources said all major parks maintained by the development authority would get colour LEDs in phases in the next six months.
At present, the development authority controls 65 big and small community parks. "We have been taking up various development works in our parks - colour LED is one such initiative. We hope people visiting the park in the evening will like it," the official said.
The development authority revised the opening and closing timings of the parks last September following an increase in footfall. Chief horticulturist A.N. Dhar said better facilities led to the rise in footfall.
Bhyom Nagar resident Sitanshu Hota said people visited the parks mostly in the evenings. "It is a good move to decorate the parks in such a manner. They should continue their work and add more facilities," he said.
