Bhubaneswar, Oct. 16: A collage of the diverse shades of life etched on the canvas by master artists as well as young painters displayed at ‘Creartivity’ is attracting art lovers in the city. Merging creativity and art, the group show organised by Jagriti Art Initiative has brought together a rare collection of paintings and sculptures.

Noted works of eminent painters can be seen adorning the walls of the gallery at the Regional Lalit Kala Akademi. The image of a pond side, with an exquisite effect of vibrant shades of ochre to depict tree leaves, soothed by the calm greenery and a reflection of the sky in the water, form the striking work of Hyderabad-based artist Surya Prakash in his acrylic painting.

Acclaimed artist the late Gobardhan Ash’s oil painting Harvesting is a remarkable work that captures a scene from the harvest fields wherein women are seen busy reaping the crops with sickles. The artist’s perfection in portraying the picture of the field is shown in the posture of the working women and the depiction of the field with thick layers of paint. Another master artist Rameshwar Broota’s untitled work, which is also in oil, is arresting as well. Broota has given a natural effect to the painting by scrapping with blade.

In the works of over 54 artists displayed at the exhibition, city-based art enthusiasts have much to cheer for as Oriya artists stand out for their abstract as well as traditional paintings. Gourang Barik’s Rag Todi is a beautiful creation illustrating female court musicians playing instruments. The array of colours and the traditional forms used in the painting are impressive.

Well-known contemporary artist Chaita Basu Jena’s mixed media painting is fascinating for its attention given to the subject, which has been accentuated by embossing. Tarakant Parida’s work Blessing portrays the materialistic aspect of human nature.

Young female artists Nilanshu Bala Sasmal and Satyabhama Majhi have showcased interesting themes. Senior painters such as Siba Panigrahi and Baladev Moharatha, as well as established artists, such as Manas Ranjan Jena, Pratap Kumar Jena and Subrat Mallick have presented their intriguing creations.
