Cuttack, Dec. 21: Police have filed chargesheet in the high-profile murder case of teacher Alakananda Mishra.
Deputy commissioner of police (Cuttack) S. Praveen Kumar said the chargesheet had been filed against 10 accused. Among them, is Paresh Mohapatra, the prime accused. “We filed the chargesheet in court yesterday against all the 10 accused in the murder case,” said Kumar.
Sources said Markatnagar police, in its 14-page chargesheet, revealed that Paresh Mohapatra had killed Alakananda Mishra by strangulating her with a dupatta following a dispute on July 29.
The police said the primary reason behind Paresh killing Alakanada was that she had been putting pressure on him to marry her.
Police arrested Paresh, who worked as the principal of a reputed English-medium school, on August 28 based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s family members.
The police said both Paresh and Alakananda had been in a relationship and used to stay together at a rented house of CDA Colony in Sector 10. In 1998, Alakananda married one Sunanda Mishra, but they were staying separately though there had been no formal divorce. The deceased had developed intimacy with Paresh, who later helped her get a job in the same school as a teacher.
During interrogation, Paresh had also confessed to have killed Alakananda following a scuffle at their house.
Later, Paresh had taken the body to Kaliaboda cremation ground and cremated her with the help of the transport in charge of his school, Pranabas Roy, and other associates, including J. Kameshwar Rao of Mangalabag.
Sources said the police hoped that all the accused would be convicted because there were strong circumstantial evidences against them. The cops had also recovered the dupatta that was used to strangulate Alakananda. Her laptop, mobile phone and other items were also recovered from the school.
