Sambalpur, Aug. 6: Technology holds the key to development, said Orissa governor and chancellor of Orissa universities M.C. Bhandare. He was addressing the third annual convocation of the Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) here today.
“India is fast emerging as one of the fastest growing economies in the world. The progress in the field of information technology and space technology has drawn the attention of the world to us,” said Bhandare, urg ing the students to be part of the growth of emerging India.
Bhandare also emphasised on the ability to use technology. “It is perceptible from current trends; they reflect that the power of technological advancement would play an important role in making India a developed nation,” he said.
“In this era of knowledge explosion, one has to continuously endeavour to keep abreast of the latest developments and expand one’s horizon of knowledge. Both technology and innovation are sine qua non for building a knowledge economy,” he added.
A total of 373 students were conferred with degrees. Vice-chancellor of VSSUT, Prof. Deba Kumar Tripathy said: “The university is sensitive to the human resource development of the country and hence, revision of course curriculum is in progress. Changes in the curriculum would be brought about keeping in view the recent technological breakthroughs and demand for professionals in the fields of information technology and industries.”
Nirmal Chandra Jha, chairman of Coal India, was the chief guest on the occasion. He said that with structural reforms and globalisation, the country is poised to accelerate its growth to around 9.5 per cent to 10 per cent by the year 2013 to 2015. And this growth would pave the way for a brighter future for engineers.
He told students that the time had come for them to translate their acquired knowledge into action, without worrying about failure.
