Quiz time

Loyola School, Bhubaneswar, will host the third Aditya Memorial Quiz-2013 for the eastern zone on April 13. About 160 students from across the state and other cities such as Jamshedpur, Dhanbad and Darbhanga have registered for the event. The school has also decided to conduct the third Bhola Infratech National School Chess Championship from April 13 to 17.

Brain taxing

Fifty-one teams from 22 CBSE schools of the state took part in the Tax Your Brain city round quiz at DAV Public School (Chandrasekharpur), Bhubaneswar, to commemorate the 150th foundation day of the income tax department, government of India, on April 8. At the end of the preliminary round, four teams - two from the host school and one each from DAV Pokhariput and Delhi Public School-Kalinga - qualified for the stage round. In a thrilling finish, the DAV team emerged as city champion and qualified for the national round to be held in Delhi.

Revisit history

Dhamra Port officials organised the third Inter-School Maritime Quiz last week as part of the 49th National Maritime Day celebrations.

Nine teams in the vicinity shortlisted in various school-level competitions took part in the quiz. They were also shown a presentation on the dwindling population of tigers, elephants and various marine animals.

After that, related questions were asked in the “Memory Round” to test the ability of the students to understand and memorise things.

Overall, two sessions were conducted for senior and junior groups. In the first category, a team from Dhamrai High School, Narsinghpur, emerged winner, while the Bansada High School team finished in second place.

In the junior group, the team from the local DPCL DAV Public School bagged the first prize, while Dosinga UGME School won the runner’s up trophy.

Baby steps

Dressed in traditional robes and caps, 27 tiny tots of Kidzz Bloomingdale’s, a play school in Bhubaneswar, attended their graduation ceremony last week.

The kids, aged between two and four, presented a colourful cultural show to mark the day.

They won applause from the audience and guests, including education entrepreneur Surabhi Mohapatra, country head of Bernard Van Leer Foundation, Dharitri Patnaik, social activist Manasi Das and writer-cum-astrologer Jayanti Mohapatra.

School principal Sabita Patnaik presented Rose saplings to the dignitaries.
