Cuttack, Jan. 2: The annual high school certificate (HSC) examination, which was supposed to be held from February 22, has been rescheduled. The examination, according to the new schedule, will commence from March 16.

“The dates were rescheduled due to the ongoing census process in which the teachers are involved,” said Board of Secondary Education (BSE) president Satyakam Mishra.

The decision was taken after the Centre instructed all the state governments to postpone the examinations by a few days.“The ongoing census work would be completed by March 15 in the state. The annual HSC examination would begin from March 16 and would be completed by March 29,” Mishra said.Accordingly, the dates for filling up of forms with fine have also been extended till January 10. The deadline for filling up forms for examination was on December 22.

Around six lakh students, including four lakh regular students, are expected to appear in the HSC examination this year. The board is trying to ensure that students get the opportunity to take the examination at centres nearest to their places of residence. Keeping this in mind, the board has decided to conduct examination in 2,200 centres across the state, Mishra added. The board had earlier announced that it would issue certificates to students within seven days of the publication of results.Besides, all possible steps will be taken to conduct a free and fair examination. Roaming squads would be formed to check on malpractices during the examinations.

From this year, the board has also decided to introduce admit cards and certificates which will carry scanned photograph and signature of the candidates.Apart from this, for the first time, instant exams instead of existing supplementary examinations would be introduced from this year. According to the new system, students who fail in the exams can appear for the next exam within 20 days of the announcement of the matriculation results.

The results will be declared by mid-April, which, the board believes, will help the students to pursue their higher education.
