Cuttack: Lawyers who have paralysed proceedings in Orissa High Court for nine days decided on Saturday to continue their cease work till Wednesday instead of Monday, buoyed by support of bar associations from across the state.
The high court bar association has abstained from court work since August 29 to demand the arrest of a police personnel involved in the assault of a member advocate.
On Wednesday, the association decided in a general body meeting to continue the cease work till the erring cop was arrested. They had also decided to review the decision on Monday.
But there was a change in decision following a meeting of the association with representatives of different bar associations here on Saturday.
"After the meeting, we decided to continue the agitation as nothing has been done on the demand so far," the high court bar association said.
The association said presidents and secretaries of more than a hundred bar associations from across the state attended the meeting.
"Bar associations from distant places such as Koraput, Jeypore, Deogarh, and Keonjhar attended the meeting and expressed solidarity," association secretary Satyabrata Mohanty said.
"We have also decided that a delegation will meet the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, chief minister and law minister over our demand," Mohanty said.
"State Bar Council chairman Tahali Charan Mohanty and majority council members present endorsed the decision."
