Student protesters burn tyres in front of the regional office of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
After nearly five days of protest over discrepancies in this year's CBSE Class-XII results, students and parents temporarily called off the agitation on Thursday.
A delegation of students and parents on Wednesday met chief minister Naveen Patnaik, who assured them all possible help.
The central government will depute another high-level team to look into cases of discrepancies in the CBSE Class XII results. Naveen on Thursday spoke to HRD minister Prakash Javadekar, who assured him that the issue would be resolved urgently.
However, that did not stop the protests from taking an ugly turn as students allegedly ransacked the regional office at Saheed Nagar. Some students allegedly shattered the glass door of the main entrance, sparking panic. A platoon of police was deployed to avoid any untoward incident. Members of the transgender community also joined the protests, alongside parents and teachers.
The students have postponed their strike till June 6 after the board authorities gave a written assurance to resolve the issue by then. "We will resume the strike again if action is not taken," said parents' association convener Sudarshan Dash.
