Bhubaneswar, April 26: Capital High School, the first government high school of Bhubaneswar, has planned a series of interesting programmes to celebrate its diamond jubilee this weekend.
The two-day function on April 28-29, to be inaugurated by Odisha governor M.C. Bhandare, will start with a marathon run.
A souvenir and a special postal cover will be released on the occasion. A blood donation camp by former students, a conference on the Right to Education, inter and intra-school events features on the list of dos to mark the occasion. Besides, there will be a special interaction session between former students and former teachers.
“We have invited all the retired teachers and old students of the school to attend the celebrations. Watching them discuss things of the past and share their experiences of school life is something we are looking forward to,” said headmistress of the school Bandana Mohapatra.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik will attend the valedictory function. On the occasion, there will be a special presentation by the former students. “We have prepared a small audio-visual show with background music, pictures and memories of our school days,” said former student of the school Prabhas Ranjan Rout, who is pursuing his Plus Three studies at the BJB (Autonomous) College. Besides, the authorities are planning to set up a 400-seater hostel for general category students.
At present, the school has only one such accommodation facility with 130 seats for students belonging to scheduled castes and scheduled tribe categories. “Often, general students from distant places approach us for accommodation facilities and a hostel for them would surely be a boon,” said Mohapatra.
