Bhubaneswar, Jan. 22: After the All India Institute of Medical Sciences here, Capital Hospital will soon adopt the e-hospital system on a pilot basis with the aim to go paperless.

When the system becomes functional, Capital Hospital will become the first state government facility here to start registration of patients online. With the mechanism in place, every patient visiting the hospital will be provided with a number and a bar code. The patient's medical details and history can be accessed through the number and the bar code.

Besides, patients will be able to make OPD appointments online from the hospital's website. <>The system is aimed at eliminating the need of paper. Capital Hospital witnesses a footfall of approximately 1,000 on a daily basis. This includes patients from rural areas of the state. Swayam Prakash Panigrahi, 52, businessman and resident of Saheed Nagar, said the system would help patients. "The Central government has already implemented e-hospital at the majority of AIIMS and other such institutions. It has received good response from patients. Capital Hospital witnesses huge footfall of patients on a daily basis. The system will eliminate the need for standing in queue for making OPD appointments and for accessing laboratory test results," he added.

ambitiousAIIMS Bhubaneswar adopted the e-hospital system on January 11. The National Informatics Centre manages the system and the online service is available for patients at the registration and billing counters of the hospital at present.
