Bhubaneswar: KISS, in association with the UN Women and Kalinga Fellowship, is going to organise a "Campaign to Stop Violence against Women and Girl Child" in Odisha from June 3 to 7.
A number of activists and government officials would join the launch ceremony - Kanya Kiran - on Sunday.
"Girl child is like rays of sun. Just as sunrays bring happiness among all living beings on the earth, the birth of a girl child brings happiness and prosperity in the society. As the sunrays are the source of all living beings, the future generation, too, lies in a girl child. This implies that where women are respected, even gods like to reside there; and where they are disrespected, all actions remain unfruitful," said KISS founder and the BJD's Rajya Sabha member Achhyuta Samanta.
He also referred to the Sanskrit hymn - " Yatra naryastu pujyante ramante tatra devata, yatraitaastuna pujyante sarvaastatrafalaah kriyaah" - to elaborate his thoughts.
Employees of KISS and KIIT will be engaged in the task. They will sensitise the children, their parents and general public about the social evils and how to combat violence against women.
