Bhubaneswar, Aug. 14: The spirit of patriotism is palpable in the capital on the eve of Independence Day with people making a beeline for kiosks offering novel options to flaunt the Tricolour in style.

Schoolchildren, college students and corporate employees were seen buying the national flag, caps, badges and various other items embossed with the Tricolour symbol.

“My friends and I will hold khadi flags during the morning parade at the Mahatma Gandhi Road. We will also wear flag badges, caps with the tricolour symbol and wristbands with stripes of saffron, white and green,” said Manisha Nayak, an engineering student.

The khadi flags are the most sought after items during Independence Day.

“We have got plenty of orders from corporate houses, educational institutions and government organisations,” said Anam Chandra Das, a seller of khadi products.

“Many teenagers are also collecting patriotic mugs, key chains, photo frames and wall hangings,” said Krishan Modi, proprietor of a gift store in Kharavela Nagar. Girls are also showing off their patriotism in a fashionable way.

“I got a white salwar kameez stitched and bought a double shaded dupatta in saffron and green. I will team this outfit with matching accessories such as bindis and earrings,” said Subhadra Priyadarshini, a counsellor at an educational institute.
