Lightning kills one
Bhubaneswar: One person died when lightning struck at Koska village in Nayagarh district on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Bijay Kumar Sethi. He was returning from his farm when the incident took place.
Impostor held
Berhampur: Police on Sunday arrested Uma Shankar Behera, 52, for impersonating a Maoist and attemtping to extort a retired bank employee. Behera had threatened to kill Prafulla Kumar Sahu unless he paid Rs 2 lakh. Uma Shankar, who resided at Panda Colony with his wife and son, wrote a threat letter to Sahu, a resident of Bidya Nagar, on April 15 by ordinary post. Cops seized his mobile phone and a rubber seal marked CPI (Maoist), Rayagada.
Rape charge
Bhubaneswar: Police detained a zilla parishad member of Narla in Kalahandi district on charges of rape on Sunday. The parishad member was detained on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim with the M.Rampur police station. A source said further action would be initiated after medical tests.
