Heatwave prevails

Bhubaneswar: Severe heatwave conditions prevailed across the state with as many as 17 places recording above 40 degree Celsius. Titilagarh remained the hottest place in the state with a maximum temperature of 48.5 degree Celsius.

Couple held

Bhubaneswar: A marine engineer and his wife were arrested on Sunday for torturing a minor girl. It was alleged that the couple had brought the girl from Mayurbhanj district on the promise that they would arrange for her studies, but made her work as a domestic help.

Accident

Bhubaneswar: Two persons died in an accident in Attabira on Sunday. The victims were identified as Subrat Mishra and Dipak Das.

Fishermen

Balasore: The local fishermen have sought permission  to catch fish by using their non-motorised boats. They submitted a memorandum to the district collector on this regard on Sunday.

Murder probe

Cuttack: Baripada police began investigation after registering a case of murder, after the body of a 35-year-old woman was found. Jagannath Parida of Madhuban, the husband of Bhanumati, the deceased woman alleged that she was killed by unknown assailants.

Bridge work

Rourkela: The tender process for the construction of the second bridge on Brahmani River has been delayed by 10 days for technical reasons, said Rourkela legislator Dilip Ray. The existing bridge is almost 60 
years old.
