New role for IPS
Bhubaneswar: B Radhika, the 1989-batch IPS officer, has been appointed the new additional director general of State Armed Police. Rajesh Kumar, an IPS officer of 1998 batch, has been appointed the new director of the State Crime Records Bureau replacing Radhika.
Murder
Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar: A man beat his three-year-old niece to death with a stick at Telkoi in Keonjhar district on Friday. Dukha Juanga, the accused, has been arrested. Family sources said that Juanga was not mentally stable.
Harass case
Bhubaneswar: Police on Friday recorded the statement of Pankaj Mahakud, the son of Independent legislator from Champua Sanatan Mahakud. His statement was recorded after Kavita Mahakud had approached the Mahila police claiming that Pankaj and Sanatan had harassed her.
Assets cuffs
Sambalpur: Nayagarh block’s junior engineer Sanatan Bhol was arrested by vigilance directorate for accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The vigilance sleuths detected assets worth Rs 62 lakh in Bhol’s possession.
One killed
Bhadrak: An 18-year-old man died after the vehicle in which he was travelling overturned in Bhadrak on Friday. An opera party truck carrying 11 men skidded off the road, resulting in the accident. The deceased has been identified as Ajit Tudu. Two others sustained minor injuries.
Steel plant
Bhubaneswar: Two workers and an engineer were seriously injured in an accident at Arati Steel Plant in Athgarh on Friday when they were melting steel. They trio were admitted to a private hospital in Cuttack.
Inmate hurt
Rayagada: An inmate of Rayagada sub-jail was hurt when a group of prisoners allegedly attacked him over past enmity. The victim has been identified as Tirtha Kumar Sahoo, who is lodged in the jail on charges of illegal cattle trafficking. Sahoo has been admitted to a local hospital, sources said.
Man held
Sambalpur: A 45-year-old man was arrested by police in Jharsuguda district for allegedly attempting to murder his wife. The accused has been identified as Rameswar Bhoi.
Arrest
Balasore: Police arrested five persons on the charges of robbery. The accused persons are all in their mid-twenties and residents of Mulla Nagar here.
