Cash seized 

Balangir: Cops have seized more than Rs 12 lakh from the house of a dadan sardar (migrant workmen recruitment agent) in Balangir district. Cops raided the house of Khirasagar Bag at Tingra village in Saintala police station limits on Sunday night and seized Rs 12,75,900. 

Everester

Bhubaneswar: Ace mountaineer and Everester Pradeep Sahoo died in Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe following a severe heart attack. Sahoo, 50, a popular face in the city's mountaineering circle, breathed his last on Sunday.

Fake note

Bhubaneswar: Cops have detained a youth on charges of circulating counterfeit currency of Rs 2,000 denomination on Sunday night in Jharsuguda. According to reports, the youth tendered a Rs 2,000 note to a petrol pump filling station staff member at  5pm after refilling his motorcycle.

Agitation

Bhubaneswar: Lawyers under the aegis of the central action committee of the various western Odisha bar associations will stage a protest rally at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on November 28. They will  reiterate their demand for a permanent bench of Orissa High Court in the western region of the state.

Cong meet

Bhubaneswar: Only one of the Congress MLAs holding organisational posts turned up at the meeting of the Congress called on Monday to discuss the strategy for the upcoming panchayat polls. Although all 33 district congress committee presidents were invited to the meet, three party MLAs —  Prakash Behera, Debendra Sharma and Nabakishore Das —who also head their respective district committees, did not turn up.

Sum fire

Bhubaneswar: The body that is investigating the Sum Hospital fire tragedy has received as many as 339 affidavits. The date of filing affidavits ended on Monday. It will record the statements of as many as 61 witnesses between November 28 and December 3. The probe would also involve questioning of personnel involved in conducting post-mortems of the victims.
