Bribe cuffs

Sambalpur: The vigilance sleuths on Monday arrested Badmal gram panchayat sarpanch Chandini Mirdha's husband Kalakanhu Mirdha for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 8,000 from one Pradeep Kumar Biswal to pursue his wife for processing a file to issue work order.

Rebels killed

Phulbani: Bodies of two Maoist acitivists were recovered from the Madaguda forest at Tumudibandh on Monday following a gunfight. Three guns and bullets were seized from the forest, said Kandhamal SP Kanwar Vishal Singh.

OCS case

Bhubaneswar: Orissa High Court will hear the dispute over legality of awarding full marks for wrong and faulty questions in the Odisha Civil Services (preliminary) examination of 2011. Priyambada Das, 34, a local resident, had filed a petition on July 8, questioning the legality of the Tribunal that directed the Odisha Public Service Commission to re-evaluate the answer sheets.

Witch-hunt

Baripada: Kasarai Murmu, 70, was allegedly killed in suspicion of practising witchcraft. His body was found near Gadighti Padia in Tiring police limits. Two people suspected to have killed him last night were at large, said Rairangpur sub-divisional police officer Mohanpani Karua.

Dhauli show

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik and tourism minister Ashok Chandra Panda will inaugurate the light and sound show at the historical Dhauli mutt on Tuesday. The 35-minute show will speak about the life of Asoka, the Kalinga war and his transformation Chandasoka to Dharmasoka.

Heavy rain

Bhubaneswar: The meteorology department has predicted heavy rainfall across the state due to a depression, which is likely to further concentrate in the next 24 hours.
