Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal members did not join the protest march to the Rashtrapati Bhavan, led by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, against the controversial Land Acquisition Bill.

Robbers held

Bhubaneswar: Police on Tuesday arrested Gurucharan Patra, 27, Himanshu Swain, 24, both of Jagatpur area, Jagannath Sahu, 32, of Madhupatna and Sk Manuar, 27, of Pir Bazaar in Cuttack.

Road mishap

Bhubaneswar: Three persons died near Niali as a Mahindra Bolero car hit their motorcycle. The deceased have been identified as Mitu Palei, 27, Budhanatha Swain, 55, and Babuni Swain, 45.

Bhubaneswar: Sashimani Devi, the last Devdasi of Lord Jagannath temple in Puri, on Tuesday expressed her gratitude to KIIT and KISS founder Achyuta Samanta for his financial help. Sasimani's adopted son Somanath Panda said: "Samanta has been offering Rs 10,000 per month since past six years.”

Murderer jailed

Sambalpur: The district and sessions judge court on Tuesday sentenced Jitendra Singh for life imprisonment in connection with a murder case. Singh had murdered Surya Meher with during a discussion over a disputed house at Ganesh Nagar in Rengali police station limits on December 11, 2011.
