Lulu Sena protest
Bhubaneswar: Lulu Sena activists (former Congress MLA Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra aka Lulu) on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority's office, alleging the authority of adopting defective policies causing problems to poor and middle-class families aspiring to have houses in the city. The protesters had a scuffle with police after they tried to break the barrier and enter the office.
One dead
Sambalpur: An engineering student drowned in the Mahanadi river in Sambalpur on Monday. The deceased was identified as Amarnath Mallick, a first-year student of electrical engineering at Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology. He hailed from Raikia in Kandhamal district. According to sources, the incident took place when he was taking a bath with his four friends.
Deer rescued
Puri: Odisha police and forest officials rescued a deer from Balisahi village under Satyabadi block in Puri on Monday. According to sources, some villagers spotted a deer, which had strayed into the village in search of food, being chased by dogs. The villagers informed police and forest department following which the officials rescued the deer.
Accident
Paradip: A bike rider was killed after a Hyva truck hit him at the Paradip port on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Aruna Khuntia, a resident of JGAI Colony. He was working as a procline operator under a contractor. According to sources, the incident occurred when Aruna was entering the port at gate No. 5.
Molestation
Bhubaneswar: Police on Monday arrested an official for allegedly molesting a minor girl and a woman at Rajnagar in Kendrapara. The accused cop identified as Amar Kumar Behera is posted as havildar at the Rajnagar police station.
Peaceful polls
Bhubaneswar: The BJP on Monday demanded peaceful conduct of the upcoming rural polls in the state before the State Election Commission in the wake of the February 4 incident at Tarabha in Dhenkanal.
